Interior Disburses $21 Billion in Clean Energy Revenue

The energy created on federal lands and oceans funds key programs.

The Department of the Interior (DOI) disbursed the $21.53 billion in revenue generated from energy production on public lands this month. The new offshore wind area leased in the New York Bight generated $4.37 billion alone in the fiscal year 2022. The second-largest income from energy since 1983 was experienced in the past year, and it was the largest amount of energy income from renewable energy programs.

The Interior Department’s Office of Natural Resources Revenue (ONRR) distributed funds to tribes, Indian mineral owners, and to reclamation, conservation, and preservation funds. ONRR also reported that they “also disbursed $4.36 billion in fiscal year 2022 funds to 33 states. This revenue was collected from oil, gas, renewable energy, and mineral production on federal lands within the states’ borders and from offshore oil and gas tracts in federal waters adjacent to four Gulf states’ shores.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Deb Haaland as she oversees all the agencies within the Interior Department.
  • For Director Gregory Gould as he heads the Office of Natural Resources Revenue.
  • For U.S. officials in the departments of energy and interior as they collaborate on renewable energy.
