Administration Suspends Free COVID-19 Tests

White House will stockpile remaining test unless Congress provides funding.

The White House announced that they suspended their program distributing free at-home COVID-19 tests as of September 2. The COVIDTests.gov website was set up during the surge of the Omicron variant and mailed 600 million testing kits to those who applied. However, though President Biden promised to distribute 1 billion free COVID-19 tests in January, “Congress has not provided the COVID-19 funding we need to replenish the nation’s stockpile of tests,” said a senior administration official.

President Biden’s administration will save the remaining at-home tests in their stockpile in case another infection spike occurs in the fall. “If Congress provides funding, we will expeditiously resume distribution of free tests through COVIDTests.gov,” the official said.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Health and Human Services Secretary Becerra as he oversees the various agencies within his department.
  • For wisdom for members of Congress as they consider the needs of the nation.
  • For health officials within the administration to be discerning regarding the necessity of providing further tests for the coronavirus.
