Issue 551 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo does not believe that the country will fall into a major economic slowdown, stating that many are “talking ourselves into a recession.” She said that it is “normal” for economic growth to slow down to more “steady” levels as the Federal Reserve rapidly raises interest rates.

President Biden’s administration unveiled details of the final rules surrounding the federal bailout of hundreds of union pension plans passed as part of the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act coronavirus relief package last year. Officials say this will secure workers’ benefits for decades to come.

Pray for the president and members of his administration as they endeavor to deal with inflation.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is urging Senator Chuck Schumer to say whether or not Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch lied under oath about their views on Roe v. Wade during their confirmation hearings.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is working to pass a budget reconciliation bill during the July and early August work period. He says he has made progress on proposals to lower the cost of prescription drugs, extend Medicare’s solvency, and raise taxes on some high-income earners. But other major issues remain unresolved. His goal is to pass it through the partisan reconciliation process, which would need only 50 votes and not require any votes of the minority members

As you pray for members of Congress, intercede particularly on behalf of Senator Schumer as he has dealt with pressing matters remotely due to testing positive for COVID.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

Members of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence have asked the Federal Trade Commission to look into TikTok for alleged deception about its ties to China. One concern is that Chinese employees had access to U.S. user data despite the platform’s leadership claiming otherwise.

The House Oversight Committee has asked the chief executives of three gun manufacturers to testify on July 20 as part of its investigation into the firearms industry following the recent high-profile mass shootings.

Pray for those who will be testifying before the Senate and House committees, and for cogent questioning by the members of Congress.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

A three-judge panel of the Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals cast doubt on the legality of the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Oral arguments took place last week regarding the program that protects people brought to the U.S. illegally while still children. It is unclear when they will hand down any decision.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Clare Hochhalter of the U.S. District Court for the District of North Dakota declared that the Juarez, Mexico, Cartel will have to pay $4.6 billion to the families of nine people it allegedly killed in 2019. The deaths occurred when cars they were driving approximately 90 miles from the U.S. border with Mexico were ambushed and fired upon by alleged cartel members, who eventually set their cars on fire.

Pray for wisdom for America’s judges who are hearing cases surrounding America’s immigration laws and policies.
