Mexican President Refuses Invitation to Americas Summit

Protests omission of leaders from Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.

On Monday, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador made good on his word and officially refused to attend the Summit of the Americas later this week. President Joe Biden did not invite leaders from Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua to the leadership summit due to the regimes in power. President Obrador had stated he would not attend unless all nations were asked, and when the U.S. stood firm, so did he.

“It is important to acknowledge that there are a range of views on this question in our hemisphere, as there are in the United States,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said. “The president’s principal position is that we do not believe that dictators should be invited.”

The summit begins Wednesday and is being held in Los Angeles. The administration has promoted the event as an opportunity to address “core challenges.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for the president and his administration as they host the Americas Summit in Los Angeles.
  • For officials in the State Department as diplomatic efforts are made with South, Central, and North American leaders.
  • For God’s purposes to be accomplished through the summit.
