UPDATE 8:00 PM 5/24 EDT

In the aftermath of the Uvalde shooting, reports indicate that the number of lives lost has risen to 18 students and 2 teachers.

Vice President Kamala Harries spoke about the shooting and announced that she and President Joe Biden have been briefed on the developing situation. “So while we don’t know all the details yet, we do know that there are parents who have lost children – families that have lost children – and their loved ones of course, and many others who may have been injured.” She added, “To the people of Uvalde – please know that this is a room full of leaders who grieve with you, and we are praying for you, and we stand with you.”

From Air Force One, President Joe Biden directed that the nation’s flags be lowered to half-staff in the wake of the shooting. He will address the nation following his arrival back at the White House. He is returning from his five-day trip to Asia as part of the recent QUAD summit.

UPDATE 6:00 PM 5/24 EDT

An “active shooter” was reported at a Texas elementary school early Tuesday and a district-wide shutdown was ordered.

Governor Abbot said in a press briefing, “The shooter was Salvador Ramos, an 18-year-old male who resided in Uvalde. It’s believed that he entered into the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde with a handgun, and he may have also had a rifle, but that is not confirmed according to my most recent report. He shot and killed, horrifically, incomprehensibly, 14 students and killed a teacher. [the shooter], he himself, is deceased, and it’s believed that responding officers killed him.”

The Uvalde Memorial Hospital said it received 13 children from ambulance and buses for treatment, and that two people who arrived at the hospital were deceased. A second hospital said it is caring for one child and one adult, including the woman who is in critical condition. Responders are currently contacting parents.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For first responders and hospital officials as they treat and care for the shooting victims.
  • For God’s comfort for the loved ones of those who perished in the elementary school shooting.
  • For the president and his administration to seek God’s heart as they work to prevent violence.
