DOE Sponsors 11 Nuclear Cleanup Projects

Says effective nuclear cleanup is important to clean nuclear energy.

The Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) announced that they are making $36 million available to 11 projects researching forward-thinking nuclear waste management. Nuclear power currently generates about a fifth of the United State’s electricity. However, dealing with the nuclear waste that results from energy generation is hazardous and relies mainly on adequate storage rather than waste reduction.

“Developing novel approaches to safely manage nuclear waste will enable us to power even more homes and businesses in America with carbon-free nuclear energy,” said U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm. “ARPA-E is doing just that by supporting companies and universities that are working on next-generation technologies to modernize advanced reactors and strengthen the nation’s clean energy enterprise.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Granholm to seek God’s direction as she oversees her department.
  • For U.S. energy officials and advisors as investments are made in nuclear waste management.
  • For wisdom for the president and his administration as they pursue renewable energy sources.
