Labor Secretary Comments on February’s Jobs Report

Encouraged by the reduction in the unemployment rate.

U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh communicated optimism after seeing the February 2022 Employment Situation Report. The Bureau of Labor Statistics found that 678,000 jobs were added in the month of February, which accounts for 90% of the jobs lost since the pandemic began. The unemployment rate was shown to have decreased from 4% in January to 3.8% last month.

Secretary Marty Walsh stated, “Working people are empowered by this recovery to seek better opportunities, and at the Department of Labor we are working through our Good Jobs Initiative to improve job quality, job access, and job equity across the economy. We are expanding our work with government partners and private-sector employers to strengthen supply chains, create more equitable pathways into good jobs, and increase workers’ wages and bargaining power.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Walsh to seek the Lord’s wisdom as he heads his department.
  • For Labor Department officials as they work to support the employment market.
  • For the president and the Economic Council to be discerning in their approach to the U.S. economy.
