Russia and China Test Orbital Weapon Capabilities

U.S. officials discuss the ramifications and dangers posed to America and the world.

In recent months, Russia and China have openly flexed their space capabilities. Russia recently conducted a weapons test in which it destroyed one of its own defunct satellites. This concerned the international community as it created more than 1,500 pieces of space debris and poses risk to astronauts and their own cosmonauts aboard the International Space Station.

In similar news, the Pentagon says that China carried out an advance hypersonic missile test that orbited the earth and struck a target on the ground within mainland China. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said following the announcement, “We have concerns about the military capabilities that the PRC continues to pursue, and the pursuit of those capabilities increases tensions in the region.”

On Wednesday, Vice President Kamala Harris held the first National Space Council meeting of the Biden administration. She said that the White House would like to see space as a place of peace and discovery and that the administration will do what it can to ensure “that space activity create opportunities that benefit the American people and the world.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For God to guide and direct Secretary Austin as he leads the Department of Defense.
  • For wisdom for the president and U.S. officials as they navigate foreign policy in order to keep peace.
