Issue 506 – Verse of the Week

September 2nd – September 8th, 2021

VERSE OF THE WEEK

By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 1 John 3:16

Honor the Sacrifice

Historic eras come and go. Memories surge and then fade. But scars can linger and hurts may last interminably. Seventy-five years ago, members of America’s “Greatest Generation” returned from World War II. Nearly half a century ago, another generation of American soldiers returned from Vietnam. Now, military men and women who have served in the “longest war” in Afghanistan have come home. In each case, some among them are broken and disheartened. War is terrible and the wounds are deep. Honor these valiant warriors as you reflect on their sacrifice. Pray for them all, from whatever generation and whichever war, to have wounds bound and hearts healed by the Healer whose loving sacrifice gives them eternal life when they believe. Add their families to your prayers, for their sacrifice also deserves respect and honor.
