Secretary of State Speaks with Chinese Foreign Minister

Discusses matters of concern regarding the origins of the pandemic and other issues.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken addressed a number of topics involving China on Friday. He stressed the need for cooperation and transparency with the CCP in a call with his Chinese counterpart, Yang Jiechi.

China’s Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission expressed Beijing’s concern about the increasing belief that the coronavirus escaped from the Wuhan laboratory, calling the idea “absurd.” He also told Secretary Blinken that Washington should handle Taiwan-related issues “carefully and appropriately.”

The call came as the G7 summit convenes, where President Biden is expected to lead efforts to counter China’s growing influence. The State Department said the diplomats also discussed economic actions, North Korea policy, deterioration of democratic norms and Hong Kong, and the genocide of Muslim Uyghurs.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Blinken as he navigates the challenges with China over numerous matters.
  • That both the U.S. and Chinese governments would have full transparency about the origins of the coronavirus.
  • For President Biden and his meetings at the G7 summit.
