Speaker Says U.S. Should Boycott China Olympics

She points to genocide and human rights violations.

At the Capitol on Tuesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the United States should carry out a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing due to China’s human rights abuses.

She told a congressional hearing on the issue that heads of state who attend Olympic events in China would no longer have moral authority to speak out about human rights in light of genocide being committed by China.

A recent State Department report declared that the Chinese government continues to engage in genocide and crimes against humanity through the repression of predominantly Muslim Uyghurs and other minorities in western China. “China broadly criminalizes religious expression and continues to commit crimes against humanity and genocide against Muslim Uyghurs and other religious and ethnic minority groups,” Secretary of State Blinken said.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For U.S. government officials as they consider the House speaker’s call for a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in China.
  • For wisdom for the president and his administration as decisions are made regarding foreign policy.
