88% of American children eligible.
The IRS announced that it would begin the implementation of direct payments to American families with children starting on July 15. The payments, a part of the sweeping COVID-19 efforts passed by Congress, would provide monthly credits to about 88% of American children. The payments are expected to be sent by the same means as the stimulus checks sent by the Treasury Department.
President Biden released a statement saying, “The American Rescue Plan is delivering critical tax relief to middle class and hard-pressed working families with children. With today’s announcement, about 90% of families with children will get this new tax relief automatically, starting in July.”
