Senate Debates Elections Bill

Rules committee in a stalemate on next steps.

On Tuesday, members of the Senate Rules Committee began discussion of the For the People Act, a voting rights bill designed to update federal rules around elections. The committee remained at an impasse on Tuesday night with a 9-to-9 vote on moving the bill forward to a vote on the Senate floor.

Committee Chair Senator Amy Klobuchar said that the bill was important “to restore Americans’ confidence in our political system.” However, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell stated, “Our democracy is not in crisis and we aren’t going to let one party take over our democracy under the false pretense of saving it.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For God to guide the Senate on the best way to proceed with this bill.
  • That Congress will pass legislation that accomplishes God’s purpose for the nation.
