HUD Announces Policy Rollback for Equal Access

Reaffirms adminstration commitment to equal access regardless of sexual orientation or gender indentity.

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge recently announced the rollback of a policy that allowed shelters to screen transgender individuals from single-sex facilities, saying the rule is discriminatory. The department is withdrawing the rule from the Federal Register. Any facility that receives grants or funding from the Office of Community Planning and Development (CPD) program will be required to include and allow all eligible individuals regardless of gender.

“Access to safe, stable housing-and shelter-is a basic necessity,” said Secretary Fudge. “Unfortunately, transgender and gender non-conforming people report more instances of housing instability and homelessness than cis-gender people. Today, we are taking a critical step in affirming HUD’s commitment that no person be denied access to housing or other critical services because of their gender identity. HUD is open for business for all.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the secretary of HUD as she leads the department.
  • For the U.S. officials evaluating and creating housing policies.
  • For the safety and security of Americans in need of shelter.
