VERSE OF THE WEEK

And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray.” – Matthew 24:4

Spring Cleaning

Tradition and culture across time have inspired the practice of a deeper than usual cleaning of one’s home—spring cleaning. It actually has its roots in Scripture, as from ancient days, according to instructions from God Himself, Jewish homes were thoroughly cleaned in preparation for Passover. From top to bottom, areas that are overlooked in general dusting and mopping are thoroughly addressed. Spring can also be a good time for a deeper spiritual spring cleaning. False doctrines, like dust bunnies, have a way of hiding in nooks and crannies of the mind and heart until a hard look at what you believe takes place. Jesus warned that being led astray can happen—and it happens when your thoughts are distracted by the cares of the world or when your expectations aren’t met. Do a top-to-bottom review of your life in Christ. Invite the Holy Spirit to do a spring-cleaning in your soul. Then pray, as David did in Psalm 51, “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow… Create in me a clean heart, O God” (verses 7 and 10).
