Troop Withdrawal from Afghanistan Expected by 2022

President does not expect to make the May 1 deadline, however.

During President Joe Biden’s press conference this week, he anticipated that U.S. troops will be withdrawn from Afghanistan before next year. He indicated that meeting the previous administration’s deadline this spring would be unlikely. He stated, “it’s going to be hard to meet the May 1 deadline just in terms of tactical reasons.”

The president said, “We’ve been meeting with our allies, those other nations that have NATO allies who have troops in Afghanistan as well. And if we leave we’re going to do so in a safe and orderly way.” He continued, “We are not staying for a long time. We will leave… the question is when we leave.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president and his administration as they evaluate troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.
  • For wisdom for the Pentagon and U.S. military leadership as they advise the president.
  • For safety for U.S. troops in the Middle East.
