Defense Department Pledges to Protect Service Members

Pentagon reverses course on vaccinating Guantanamo Bay prisoners.

Over the weekend the Pentagon announced that it would roll back its plan to begin vaccinating prisoners at Guantanamo Bay. Only a couple of days earlier, the Defense Department stated that it would begin offering the vaccine to detainees. However, the plan received strong pushback from Congressional lawmakers due to the slow national rollout of the vaccine.

Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby explained the changes saying, “no Guantanamo detainees have been vaccinated. We’re pausing the plan to move forward, as we review force protection protocols. We remain committed to our obligations to keep our troops safe.” It is not currently known how many cases exist at the base, however official military legal proceedings have been on hold since the start of the pandemic.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That God would lead the Defense Department to offer human rights to all under its jurisdiction
  • That God would guide the Biden Administration to distribute the vaccine as quickly as possible.
  • For the Lord to give President Biden wisdom on how best to navigate the pandemic.
