New CDC Director Begins Tenure

Promises to recenter science as she leads the agency.

On Tuesday, Dr. Rochelle Walensky became the new director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She will also serve as the administrator of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.

Dr. Walensky is an infectious-diseases specialist at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. The speedy appointment early into a new administration is unusual due to the Secretary of Health and Human Services not yet being installed.

During her swearing-in, Dr. Walensky said her top priority would be improving the CDC’s communications to the public in order to rebuild trust with the American people. She also pledged to set politics aside and focus on science moving forward.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That God would work through the CDC to protect the nation from disease.
  • For the Lord to help Dr. Walensky be a discerning leader of the CDC.
  • For an end to the pandemic.
