President Issues Additional Sanctions on Chinese Apps

Action taken due to data security concerns.

President Donald Trump released an executive order placing prohibitions on additional Chinese apps based on concerns surrounding the personal and financial data of Americans that these apps collect being turned over to the Chinese government. According to the president, this possible exposure threatens the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States. The ban will take effect forty-five days from the date of the order.

President Trump stated in the order, “The United States has assessed that a number of Chinese connected software applications automatically capture vast swaths of information from millions of users in the United States, including sensitive personally identifiable information and private information, which would allow the PRC and CCP access to Americans’ personal and proprietary information. The United States must take aggressive action against those who develop or control Chinese connected software applications to protect our national security.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president’s administration as they attempt to protect the national and personal security of Americans.
  • For the U.S. attorney general and Commerce secretary as they prepare to implement the order.
  • That the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency would be effective in their work.
  • For Americans to be aware of the risks of using certain applications on their devices.
