Major news outlets project that former Vice President Joe Biden will secure Electoral College.
On Saturday, many national media outlets called the winner of the presidential election for Joe Biden. This is based on the projected number of electoral votes from states expected as state vote counts are completed. Several states still have yet to report final counts and many will be reviewing and verifying their counts over the coming weeks. Additionally, legal challenges may keep states from officially certifying their election results. States are required to have their electors cast votes for their respective states in December, at which time the president-elect of the United States of America is officially determined.
President Donald Trump’s stated that “The American People are entitled to an honest election,” and that there are still ongoing legal challenges and court cases that have to be resolved before the election can be decided. He added, “This is the only way to ensure the public has full confidence in our election.”
Former Vice President Joe Biden also spoke on Saturday and called for unity in the midst of a sharply divided election, “If we can decide not to cooperate, then we can decide to cooperate. And I believe that this is part of the mandate from the American people. They want us to cooperate.” He added that, if the projected results stand, “That’s the choice I’ll make. And I call on the Congress – Democrats and Republicans alike – to make that choice with me.”
