Judge Barrett Meeting with Some Senators

Senator Schumer and others refuse meetings with her.

President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Amy Coney Barrett, has a packed schedule on Capitol Hill. She will engage in back-to-back meetings with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and seven other key senators.

Senator Chuck Schumer of New York said he will not meet with her. In a tweet, he said, “I am not going to meet with Judge Barrett. Why would I meet with a nominee of such an illegitimate process and one who is determined to get rid of the Affordable Care Act?”

Meetings with a Supreme Court nominee ahead of a high-profile hearing are not required, but they give senators a shot at questioning her one-on-one to weigh her opinions and qualifications.

Hearings for her confirmation will begin in the Senate Judiciary Committee on October 12 with a committee vote expected on October 22. An affirmative vote would pave the way for the full Senate to vote on her confirmation ahead of the November 3 election.

Because nominees only need a simple majority to be confirmed, the majority party in the Senate can seat Barrett on the court without the support of the minority partisans.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Judge Amy Coney Barrett as she has a full schedule of meetings with various members of the Senate ahead of confirmation hearings.
  • For all senators to accept and uphold their Constitutional duties.
