You’ve Been Warned

Stay confident in God’s truth.

2 Peter 3:17 – You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability.

The Bible is filled with warnings against lawless and unprincipled people…those literally “without law or custom” and “morally corrupt”…essential character traits of spiritual deceivers. God wants you to be on your guard against the error of such individuals.

In fact, in today’s verse, Peter was worried that believers might allow themselves to be carried away, not just by those people, but by what they proclaim. Be alert to them, he said. Their message might be enticing, so it is essential that you be spiritually perceptive so that you not lose your own footing…your own stability. Slipping into error is too easy for those not grounded in the Word of God.

Today, you know “they” are among you. Don’t fall for them. It is your responsibility to watch and guard yourself against their lies. There is no reason for you to be “swept off your feet” by them.

There is an old hymn that begins, “How firm a foundation, ye Saints of the Lord, is laid for your faith in his excellent word.” It concludes some seven verses later with the reminder that Jesus will not, cannot, desert you to your foes, even though all hell should endeavor to shake you.”

Pray With Us

Merciful Father, Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Thank You for every word of it, every utterance, every promise. There are many liars about these days, and their words ooze with a false account, an empty promise. I lean on You, Precious Jesus, knowing that You will keep me, and that Your Holy Spirit will guide me in the ways I should go. Do not let me slip into error.  Your bountiful grace is sufficient for me, and I thank You.

Amen.
