Sunday, August 30

Today, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are remaining in the White House in Washington, D.C, following the president’s visit to Texas and Louisiana to survey the areas impacted by Hurricane Laura. He and the First Lady have no public events on their schedule at this time and are expected to rest and prepare for the week ahead.

While in Louisiana the president signed a memorandum allowing the National Guard to respond to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic while they aid in hurricane recovery efforts. The damage from the storm is complicating how coastal and local governments are able to navigate the COVID-19 outbreak. The president said that the memorandum was designed “To maximize assistance to the governor of the State of Louisiana, where the National Guard has also been fully deployed and is engaged in the effort to help the state recover from the devastation of Hurricane Laura.” He continued, “I am directing [FEMA] to fund an additional 25 percent of the emergency assistance activities associated with preventing, mitigating, and responding to the threat to public health and safety posed by the virus that Louisiana undertakes using its National Guard forces.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For rest and encouragement for the president and first lady as they remain in the White House.
  • For God to be at work through the president as he leads the nation through the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • For wisdom for the president, FEMA leaders, and state and local officials as they work to continue the recovery following Hurricane Laura.
