Called to Stand

The Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. – Galatians 3:22

Chris Herring loves to turn moments into memories. Yet, as a Christian photographer, Chris will not violate his faith and declines to participate in same-sex engagements or weddings. Recently he filed a federal lawsuit seeking to overturn a Virginia law that encroaches upon his constitutionally-protected religious and free speech rights. The Virginia Values Act, which was signed by Governor Northam, prohibits “unlawful discrimination because of sexual orientation in places of public accommodation.” It defines a public accommodation as “all places or businesses offering or holding out to the general public goods, services, privileges, or advantages.”

Virginia’s new law forces Chris to photograph same-sex weddings or face $50,000 to $100,000 fines. Now he faces the choice: violate the law and risk bankruptcy, promote views against his faith, or close.

When Moses died, God called Joshua to lead Israel. When He did, the unmistakable authority God gave him prompted the leaders of Israel to say, “We will do whatever you command us.” And Joshua was faithful to the Lord as he led His people.

As a Christian in today’s society, it’s not a matter of if you will be called to stand up for God’s truth and righteousness, but when. So pray and listen to the Lord each day. Stay grounded in His Word. Then when challenges arise, you can walk boldly knowing that God will never leave you or forsake you. The Holy Spirit will guide you so you can capture moments of challenge into memories of victory. Faithfully intercede for America’s leaders that they will do the same.

Today’s Verse: Galatians 3:22

But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, “Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun shall be your territory. No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you. Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
