Guidelines to Reopen Schools Should be Local

Local governments know what’s best for their districts, White House says.

On Monday, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said it will be up to local governments to determine how best to bring students back to the classroom this fall after they have been closed due to the coronavirus pandemic since the spring.

“We leave it to localities to [know] exactly what guidelines will work because guidelines in a state like North Dakota need to look different than a locality like Miami,” she said.

The press secretary also said the CDC is prepared to work with every school district for safe reopening.

President Trump has said there would be a cut to federal funding for districts and local governments that elect to keep students on a remote learning schedule and said he would be putting “pressure” on governors to get schools reopened in the fall.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For state and local government officials working to establish the best guidelines to reopen schools for children in the fall.
  • For parents and students who are eager to return to in-person classroom learning.
