States and Tribes Receive $1.5 Billion to Combat Opioid Crisis

HHS makes first disbursement in two reponse programs.

Last week, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services began distribution of first-year funds to the two-year State Opioid Response and Tribal Opioid Response grant programs. The programs will assist states and tribes in providing community-level resources for people in need of prevention, treatment and recovery support services with almost $3 billion awarded over two years.

“The Trump Administration continues to provide historic levels of support for treating Americans with substance use disorders, because the COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t put a pause on our country’s opioid crisis,” said HHS Secretary Alex Azar. “We’re committed to a science-based approach for fighting the opioid crisis, focusing these State and Tribal Opioid Response grants on providing the gold standard for treatment: medication-assisted treatment with appropriate psychosocial services and community supports.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Trump as he combats the opioid crisis in the United States.
  • For Secretary Azar as he heads the HHS Department and oversees award distribution.
  • For U.S. citizens struggling with substance abuse or addiction to get the help they need.
