The U.S. Department of Education has released guidance regarding school choice. The Office of Elementary and Secondary Education sent a letter to chief state school officers on the use of federal formula funds to both expand education choice and turn around failing schools.Acting Assistant Secretary Hayley Sanon stated, “It’s a top priority for the Trump Department of Education to help turn around underperforming schools and improve student outcomes, while also giving students in those underperforming schools better options.”
She continued, “Every year that a child spends in school is precious and cannot be wasted. Students deserve a choice that best meets their unique needs while leaders undertake the important work of turning schools around. We hope that every state will lean on the guidance issued today to support school improvement activities and help more students reach their full potential.”

- The Stabilizer
Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble. – Psalm 119:165
Ocean-going cruise ships seem to glide through the water with a minimum of the rolling and shifting that used to be the cause of mal de mer for many passengers. Regardless of the strength of the wind or the waves, the ships’ stabilizers keep motion to a minimum. Whether your life is like the steadiness of a cruise ship or you are being tossed about by high waves and winds, God has provided a trustworthy stabilizing safeguard for your life. Treasuring and loving His Word develops that stability.
As you hold Scripture in your hands, do you understand that you hold a great treasure? Across the centuries, people have laid down their lives to preserve the Bible. Many in China and elsewhere across the earth today are imprisoned simply because they have a copy. Wycliffe translators have given their lives so others could find the sweetness of God’s Word in their own language.
Today’s verse says you have “great peace” when you love God’s Word… a transcendent peace that does not come from this world nor is it dependent on circumstances, but on a Sovereign God alone who gives peace beyond all understanding (Philippians 4:7). When you love His Word, nothing can offend you or make you stumble – you have that stability the world longs to have. It’s yours!
Many in the United States are looking for something to guide their lives through the storms they face. Pray that they discover the truth of God and His standards. His Word is more constant than the North Star, more stabilizing than the great fins of a cruise ship. Handle it with care. Pray for the chaplains of the Senate and House of Representatives to encourage stability among members of Congress by teaching them through their example to love the Word of God.
