Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York released a “Dear Colleague“ letter this week, warning that the request from the White House Office of Management and Budget for $5 billion in funding rescissions increases the chance of a government shutdown at the end of the current fiscal year.
“The only way to avoid a shutdown is to work in a bipartisan way,“ Senator Schumer wrote. “As we near the funding deadline, Republicans are once again threatening to go-at-it-alone — heading our country towards a shutdown.”
The senator claimed that the majority’s consideration of the “pocket rescission“ request by President Trump’s administration prioritizes “chaos over governing, partisanship over partnership.”
The Senate minority leader stated,“This month will give us the opportunity to show a sharp contrast between our agenda“ and that of the majority party.
