Praying for Our Leaders in Government
Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration
Secretary Sean Duffy said the department will be investigating public transportation in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the use of federal funding after a Ukrainian refugee was fatally stabbed by a repeat offender on the public light rail. The secretary said, “Maybe it’s appropriate that we start pulling some of that money back — because I don’t think the American taxpayer wants to pay for the homelessness and criminal elements that harm little 23-year-old girls.”
Pray for the transportation secretary and department officials as they assess cities’ use of federal funding for public transportation.
Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress
Representative Young Kim of California has introduced a resolution in the House that condemns the Los Angeles riots and thanks law enforcement. The measure “condemns unequivocally the violence perpetrated against federal, state, and local law enforcement” and “calls on local and state elected leadership to work with the federal government to end the violent riots and restore peace.” Congresswoman Kim said, “Peaceful protests are a constitutional right, but vandalism, looting, violence, and other crimes are not. Protecting public safety shouldn’t be controversial.“
Pray for members of the House as they consider the measure that appreciates law enforcement and calls out violent, criminal demonstrations.
PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES
The Senate Banking Committee, chaired by Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, approved President Trump’s nominee to complete the term of the Federal Reserve Board governor, Adriana Kugler, who stepped down last month. Stephen Miran, the White House economic advisor appointed to fill the vacancy, has said he would retain his position as head of the White House Council of Economic Advisers if he is confirmed. The nomination will now head to the Senate for a vote to complete the term that ends in January 2026.
Pray for Chair Scott and members of the committee to be discerning as they consider nominations for economic positions in the federal government.
Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges
A U.S. District Court judge upheld two contested provisions in Georgia’s 2021 election law, determining they do not violate the First Amendment right to free speech. The judge stated that the state’s provisions, which ban sending absentee ballot applications with voter information already filled and prohibit multiple applications from being sent to voters who requested one, help reduce confusion and improve election efficiency.
Pray for federal judges and Supreme Court justices to receive the Lord’s wisdom as they hear and rule on cases.
