The city’s mayor responded directly to Attorney General Pam Bondi’s federal compliance request.
Attorney General Pam Bondi sent a letter to 32 other state and city leaders, calling on them to submit compliance plans to the Department of Justice outlining how they will roll back their sanctuary policies. Sanctuary policies are local laws that make it more difficult for federal officials to arrest illegal immigrants living in those areas.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu responded to a letter sent to her city by stating, “Here is our response: Stop attacking our cities to hide your administration’s failures.” Mayor Wu spoke at a press conference and continued, “Unlike the Trump administration, Boston follows the law, and Boston will not back down from who we are and what we stand for.”
Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin responded to Mayor Wu saying, “It’s a bizarre press conference, but the lives of Americans is no joking matter.” She added, “Sanctuary city politicians, like Mayor Wu, are playing Russian roulette with the American public’s lives.”
