Transportation Secretary Announces Revised Guidance for EV Charging Stations

The department stated the updates “will ensure charging stations are actually built, and federal funding is spent effectively and efficiently.“

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said that these changes were necessary to increase the efficiency and speed of EV charging station construction.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) revised its construction requirements for the expansion of electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure last week, eliminating guidelines that require EV charging planners to develop stations alongside “rural, underserved, and disadvantaged communities.” The department also removed requirements for planned EV charging stations to “address emergency and evacuation needs, snow removal and seasonal needs, and ways for EV charging to support those needs.”

“If Congress is requiring the federal government to support charging stations, let’s cut the waste and do it right,” said Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. “Our revised [National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure] guidance slashes red tape and makes it easier for states to efficiently build out this infrastructure. While I don’t agree with subsidizing green energy, we will respect Congress’ will and make sure this program uses federal resources efficiently.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Duffy as he seeks to ensure the funding going toward electric vehicle charging stations will be used effectively.
  • For state officials as they implement the updated guidelines and collaborate with EV charging station developers.
