Chair Homedy described Sunday’s incident as “devastating.”
National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigators are reviewing the flight data and cockpit voice recorders from the Amazon Prime cargo plane crash that occurred over the weekend in Miami, Florida. The Boeing 767-33A overran the runway as it arrived from Puerto Rico, and colliding with a van and an SUV on the airport’s perimeter, killing 5 in those vehicles. Five people were also injured in the crash.
Chair Jennifer Homendy said that the investigators had to be cautious due to the jet fuel that spilled after the aircraft traveled 1,300 feet beyond the paved surface. In addition to the two vehicles, the plane struck navigational equipment and ran through two fences, and came to a stop in a Tesla robotaxi lot. Chair Homendy described the scene as “devastating.”
NTSB investigators will continue to collect evidence from the crash this week. The Federal Aviation Administration announced delayed departures from Miami International Airport, two runways were closed due to the incident.
