DOJ Announces Compensation for Backpage Tafficking Victims

The remission process is the largest effort to date for those who were trafficked through the online site.

The Department of Justice announced this month that a remission process has been launched to provide compensation to victims of human trafficking facilitated through the Backpage website. Criminals used the site between 2004 and 2018 to promote commercial sex and sex trafficking, which included minors. Owners, executives, and businesses connected to the website have already been convicted of criminal offenses.

The funds being made available to victim compensation are the result of more than $200 million in forfeited assets from Backpage.

“Backpage.com facilitated the exploitation of women and children as one of the largest online advertisers for commercial sex and sex trafficking over its 14-year existence,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew Galeotti of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. “Backpage and its executives made millions off the trafficking of victims.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew Galeotti as he oversees the DOJ’s Criminal Division.
  • For wisdom for Attorney General Bondi as she heads the Justice Department.
  • For God’s comfort and healing for all women and children who have been trafficked.
