Administration Responds to National Debt Hitting $40 Trillion

Treasury Secretary Bessent said that U.S. economic growth needs to outpace the debt.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the way out of the national debt, which passed $40 trillion this past week, is through economic growth. Vice President JD Vance stated that President Donald Trump and the treasury secretary have a “discreet” plan to grow the nation out of its massive debt.

“If you look, we are on track,“ Vice President Vance said. “So even though the debt is too high… we actually do have a plan to get the economy growing faster than the debt. And that’s the most important thing.”

The vice president pointed out that U.S. debt has grown faster than the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) for years. He said, “That’s the problem. That’s something that we’re certainly fixing every single day.”

Vice President Vance added, “Scott Bessent is very much on top of it. He knows it’s a problem and he’s got the President’s empowerment to do something about it.”

The national debt nearly doubled since the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown and stimulus.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Trump, Vice President Vance, and Secretary Bessent as they implement strategies to grow the nation’s economy.
  • For wisdom for the president and officials in his administration as they pursue economic goals.
  • For members of Congress to be prudent in their allocation of funding through the appropriations process.
