In the News…
Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr announced the agency’s annual assessment of advanced telecommunications availability in the U.S. The commission is evaluating the deployment of broadband to all Americans in a reasonable and timely manner.
Chairman Carr stated, “As we work to implement the FCC’s Build America Agenda, it’s important that we continue to measure our progress and identify the areas where improvement is needed.”
He said that the inquiry launched earlier this month “will allow us to improve the way we report to Congress“ on progress under section 706 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996.
“As we do so, we will adhere to the statutory text passed by Congress,“ the FCC chair continued. He highlighted that last year’s proceeding “marked a significant departure from agency precedent, and said, “We are course correcting by adhering to the language of the statute and asking questions that will allow us to evaluate, in a technology neutral manner, whether broadband is being deployed to all Americans in a reasonable and timely fashion. All this will continue our focus on removing regulatory barriers to deployment.“
