State Department Announces U.S. Withdrawal from UNESCO

The nation will leave the organization at the end of December 2026.

The U.S. State Department announced this past week that the United States will be withdrawing from the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The withdrawal will take effect on December 31, 2026.

State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said, “UNESCO works to advance divisive social and cultural causes and maintains an outsized focus on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, a globalist, ideological agenda for international development at odds with our America First foreign policy.“

Spokesperson Bruce continued, “UNESCO’s decision to admit the ‘State of Palestine‘ as a Member State is highly problematic, contrary to U.S. policy, and contributed to the proliferation of anti-Israel rhetoric within the organization.“

White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly said that the decision to leave UNESCO was made because the organization supports “woke, divisive cultural and social causes that are totally out-of-step with the commonsense policies that Americans voted for in November.“

President Trump originally withdrew the U.S. from UNESCO during his first term in 2017. The U.S. is not a “proper member“ due to the lack of congressional authorization when Former President Biden rejoined in 2023.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Trump to be prudent as he evaluates the U.S. membership or partnership in international organizations.
  • That the president’s Cabinet members and advisors provide wise and godly counsel.
