U.S. Sanctions UN Human Rights Council Rappoteur

Secretary Rubio criticized the official, who is supposed to be independent, for condemning Israel.

The U.S. State Department placed sanctions against Francesca Paola Albanese, the United Nations Human Rights Council Special Rapporteur for the Palestinian territories. Albanese published a report recommending a series of punishments against Israel for “genocide“of the Palestinian people. She also supported the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio responded, stating, “I am imposing sanctions on UN Human Rights Council Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese for her illegitimate and shameful efforts to prompt [the International Criminal Court] action against U.S. and Israeli officials, companies, and executives.“

“Albanese’s campaign of political and economic warfare against the United States and Israel will no longer be tolerated. We will always stand by our partners in their right to self-defense,“ he continued. “The United States will continue to take whatever actions we deem necessary to respond to lawfare and protect our sovereignty and that of our allies.“

The secretary of state also said, “The United States has repeatedly condemned and objected to the biased and malicious activities of Albanese that have long made her unfit for service as a special rapporteur.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Rubio and State Department officials as they assess and implement sanctions against hostile individuals and entities.
  • For wisdom for the president and secretary of state as they evaluate the situation in the Middle East.
