Hundreds of Staff Released from Voice of America

The administration continues to reduce taxpayer-funded federal workforce.

President Trump’s administration fired over 600 journalists from the taxpayer-funded news outlet Voice of America (VOA). This has reduced the workforce of the independent agency by 85 percent since its first cuts in March. The administration cited “dysfunction, bias, and waste“ as reasons for the layoffs.

“We took decisive action to effectuate President Trump’s agenda to shrink the out-of-control federal bureaucracy,” Senior Adviser for the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) Kari Lake stated last week. She said 50 employees remain to staff VOA, the Office of Cuba Broadcasting, and USAGM.

In March, Advisor Lake had announced that lawyers were seeking to determine the statutory minimum staffing requirement for the agency. She said at the time, “It hasn’t been doing its core mission, which is to spread the American story very well.”

“It is a massive budget, and we have to cut our government… We will lose this country if we remain to be in the kind of debt we’re in,” she continued. “It’s always difficult to cut people, you know, but this is survival for our country.”

President Trump has advocated for defunding National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) as well. Legislation has been introduced in Congress to carry out that goal.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Advisor Lake as she oversees the reduction in force of VOA and USAGM.
  • For the president and members of his Cabinet as they continue to trim bureaucracy and eliminate government waste.
