They have submitted requests as Congress has sought significant spending cuts.
Though the Congressional majority has been expressing support for significantly reduced federal spending in upcoming bills, certain federal agencies are hoping that cuts to domestic spending and foreign aid can mean more funding for other areas. The Capitol Police Force has asked Congress for a $967.8 million budget in the 2026 fiscal year, a 20 percent increase compared to its last budget.
“I recognize there are other police departments of similar size whose budgets are not as large as ours,” Chief J. Thomas Manger testified at a Senate hearing in May, shortly before his retirement. “But we are not an ordinary law enforcement agency.”
The Government Accountability Office is also asking for $933.9 million, a roughly 5 percent increase in budget. The Congressional Budget Office is requesting an 8 percent increase, and the Library of Congress has requested 5 percent more in funding.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For members of Congress as they consider the requests for additional funding from legislative agencies.
- For House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senator Majority Leader Thune as they work to get consensus on the president’s agenda legislation.
