Congress Considers Guardrails for AI After Researcher’s Warning

Artificial Intelligence
Senator Cruz said legislation is needed to protect the nation and the world from AI’s potentially catastrophic risks.

Federal legislators in both the House and Senate are considering new legislation to regulate artificial intelligence (AI) in the U.S. The new legislative focus follows a warning from a former AI researcher published about the dangers of AI superintelligence. He claimed that AI companies have not acted responsibly and are “gambling“ with human lives as they develop “self-improving superintelligence.”

Representative Anna Paulina Luna of Florida urged Congress to convene a special session to focus on AI policy recommendations. She stated, “Not enough of Congress is focusing on this. We MUST be ready. This is happening whether or not we want it to.”

Senator Ted Cruz highlighted the need for bipartisan legislation to protect not only Americans, but the rest of the world from the “catastrophic risks” of AI. He said that Congress is “not going to be able to stick our head in the sand and pretend technology isn’t happening. So we’ve got to put some guardrails on it.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Representative Luna and Senator Cruz to be discerning as they encourage members of the House and Senate to focus on guardrails for AI.
  • For wisdom for the members of Congress as they discuss how to regulate AI and safeguard the American people.
