Energy Department Announces AI-Focused Supercomputer for Scientific Discovery

The system will control NVIDIA tech for cutting-edge research in energy, AI, and physics.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recently announced that it will construct a new supercomputer named Doudna in honor of Nobel Prize-winning UC Berkeley scientist Jennifer Doudna. The system will be housed at the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center within Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and will use NVIDIA’s latest GPU and CPU technology.

Designed for high-performance computing and artificial intelligence research, supported by Dell’s infrastructure solutions, and built with cutting-edge NVIDIA chips, the supercomputer intends to speed up complex simulations in fields such as molecular modeling and high-energy physics, potentially accelerating the pace of critical scientific discoveries.

“The Doudna supercomputer represents DOE’s commitment to advancing American leadership in science, AI, and high-performance computing,” Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated. “It will be a powerhouse for rapid innovation that will bring us abundant and affordable energy supplies, breakthroughs in quantum computing, and more.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Wright to be led by the Lord as he heads the Energy Department.
  • For U.S. energy officials and scientists as they utilize artificial intelligence in energy research and innovation.
