Vice President and Secretary of State Meet with Pope Leo

They exchanged gifts and discussed “current international issues” during the private meeting.

Pope Leo XIV held a private audience with U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which the Vatican described as a “cordial” discussion “of special relevance to ecclesial life and religious freedom.”

“There was an exchange of views on some current international issues, calling for respect for humanitarian law and international law in areas of conflict and for a negotiated solution between the parties involved,” the Vatican stated after the meeting.

The leaders also exchanged gifts, with Vice President Vance giving the pope a copy of two books by St. Augustine and a Bears football jersey with his name and number on the back, honoring the pope’s origins as a Chicago-based leader.

“As you can probably imagine, people in the United States are extremely excited about you,” Vice President Vance told Pope Leo during the exchange.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Vice President Vance as he advocates for faith and religious freedoms.
  • For Secretary Rubio as he heads U.S. diplomatic efforts around the globe.
  • For God to work through Pope Leo to spread His message of hope and salvation in Christ.
