FTC and DOJ Begin Review of Federal Rules to Identify Anticompetitive Regulations

The effort follows an executive order from the president to evaluate federal regulations for oversight.

Chairman Andrew Ferguson of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Assistant Attorney General Abigail Slater of the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division recently issued a joint letter initiating a government-wide review of federal regulations that may hinder market competition. This effort follows an executive order from President Trump directing agency leaders to identify potentially anticompetitive rules under their jurisdiction, along with recommendations to modify or remove them, or explanations justifying their continued use.

In support of the initiative, the FTC has opened a public comment period to collect feedback on how federal regulations may impact economic competition. Once agencies submit their assessments, the FTC and DOJ will compile the findings into a consolidated report for the Office of Management and Budget. This list will include recommended revisions or repeals of existing rules. The effort is part of a broader plan to guarantee regulatory frameworks support open markets and fair competition across sectors.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Chair Ferguson to seek God’s direction as he heads the Federal Trade Commission.
  • For discernment for Assistant Attorney General Slater as she oversees the DOJ’s Antitrust Division.
  • For FTC and DOJ officials as they evaluate regulations to determine their potentially anti-competitive impact on the nation’s economy.
