HUD Announces Funding to Expand Housing Support for Native American Veterans

New funding plans to assist more veterans facing homelessness through Tribal HUD-VASH program partnerships.

Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner recently announced $2.2 million in new funding to expand the Tribal HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) program, which provides rental assistance to Native American veterans experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The announcement followed Secretary Turner’s visit to the Oneida Tribe reservation in Wisconsin alongside Congressman Tony Wied, where they met with Oneida Nation leadership.

“The Oneida Nation is an integral part of Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District, and I have pledged to always be a partner to them in Washington,” said Congressman Wied. “That’s why I am proud to stand alongside Secretary Turner to announce this vital new funding for the Tribal HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) Program.”

The funding, sourced from unused Fiscal Year 2017 funds, is open for application until August 15, 2025, for Tribes and Tribal Designated Housing Entities (TDHEs) to support housing efforts for Native veterans. The Tribal HUD-VASH program, a collaboration between HUD and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), combines rental assistance with case management and clinical services.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For HUD and VA officials as they collaborate on the program to assist Native American veterans with housing.
