Members are working to craft “big, beautiful bill” requested by President Trump.
The House Judiciary Committee released a draft bill this week that proposes sweeping changes to federal immigration laws. The committee held a meeting for Wednesday to further hone the 116-page bill, which includes a number of items promised by President Donald Trump on his campaign trail last year.
One change includes an application fee for asylum seekers. Currently, it is free to apply for asylum in the United States, but the committee majority is proposing a minimum fee of $1,000 to file for asylum.
There are parts of this bill that would change separate laws as well. Another part of the proposal would shut down the antitrust enforcement office of the Federal Trade Commission and transfer those powers to the Department of Justice.
This bill is intended to fulfill President Trump’s repeated promise on the campaign trail that all his changes to the federal government would be enacted in “one big beautiful bill.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For members of the House and Senate as they work on the legislation to provide for President Trump’s agenda.
- For House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune as they work to reconcile the bill.
