Retirement options and deferred resignations were immediately available to eligible employees.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recently signed a memo ordering the Department of Defense (DoD) to “immediately” offer retirement to all eligible civilian employees and open a deferred resignation program.
Secretary Hegseth said that the cuts are needed to streamline resources within the department, making this the latest effort to enact the workforce reduction agenda of President Trump’s administration. The memo was released to defense officials this week, but it did not disclose what the resignation offers would look like or how many of the department’s 900,000 civilian employees would receive them.
“This is not about a target number of layoffs at the DoD,” the defense secretary wrote. “The intent is to execute a top-to-bottom methodology that results in a force structure that is lean, mean, and prepared to win.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Hegseth as he supports President Trump’s goals to streamline the federal workforce.
- For wisdom for the defense secretary as he heads the Defense Department and oversees the U.S. Armed Forces.
