U.S. to Address Human-Rights Violations by China

Secretary Pompeo says treatment of minorities in Xinjiang cannot be ignored.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told a Senate panel the U.S. is planning new measures to address China’s human-rights violations in its Xinjang region.

“I don’t want to get in front of the final decision, but you can rest assured there are further actions,” he said, when asked about the United States’ response to China’s treatment of Muslim Uighurs and other minorities in its northwest region.

In a speech earlier in the week, Secretary Pompeo said the actions of  the Communist nation cannot be ignored any longer.

“If the free world doesn’t change Communist China,” he warned, “Communist China will surely change us. … Securing our freedoms from the Chinese Communist Party is the mission of our time.”
