Issue 593 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced that the administration is creating additional legal migration pathways by opening processing centers in other countries in preparation for expected spikes in migration after the May 11 lifting of Title 42. They intend to have centers in South and Central America approve migrants’ eligibility to discourage mass assemblies of people seeking entry at border crossings.

Pray for administration officials as they implement policies around immigration as well as the potential surge of migrants that will come as the pandemic-era Title 42 expires.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana voiced concerns that President Biden’s delay in negotiating on the national debt level could create a crisis. The president has called for a meeting on the subject for May 9th with Speaker McCarthy, House Minority Leader Jeffries, Senate Majority Leader Schumer, and Senate Minority Leader McConnell.

Pray for the congressional leaders who will be meeting with President Biden to negotiate spending and the debt ceiling.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement heard from a Health and Human Services Department whistleblower who stated sponsors for child migrants are not being properly vetted. The official said that staff at the Emergency Intake Site are unable to access law enforcement tools to vet sponsors. She said, “There’s no way to know the criminal history of someone who has no legal presence without proper vetting. … This is just unacceptable.”

Pray for members of Congress as they address immigration issues, particularly those that involve children.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case in which four fishing companies from New Jersey are appealing the power of federal agencies. A 1984 decision had directed courts to defer to administrative agencies on the interpretation of vague statutes, which grants the highest powers to agencies like the National Marine Fisheries Services. This ruling may have wide-ranging implications for federal regulators.

Pray for the Supreme Court justices as they near the end of the current session and are writing decisions that will have a national impact.
