Issue 588 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said the definition of a high-hazard flammable train is under review in his department following the derailment and subsequent hazardous materials clean-up required in East Palestine, Ohio.

In a congressional hearing, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said it could take years for the United States to refill the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. “This year,” she said, “it will be difficult to take advantage of this low price. But we will continue to look for that low price into the future because we intend to be able to save the taxpayer dollars.”

Pray for wisdom for the members of the president’s cabinet.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Legislation introduced by Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont would keep bank executives from serving as board members of regional Federal Reserve Banks that supervise their companies. “The CEOs of the largest banks in America should not be allowed to serve as directors of the main agency we have in this country in charge of regulating those very same financial institutions,” he said.

Representative Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin, who chairs the House select committee on China, said, “The Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing Uyghur genocide reveals the party’s true nature. It should serve as a warning for what the world would look like under CCP leadership. Religious minorities are rounded up in concentration camps and subjected to forced labor. Women are subject to forced abortion, sterilization, and IUD insertion. Families are separated. An ethnic group is being systematically exterminated.”

Pray for our legislators who are seeking to do the best for the United States.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals blocked the mandate issued to federal employees to receive COVID-19 vaccine, reversing the early ruling by the district court. The administration said recently that nearly 96% of covered employees had been vaccinated.

The Supreme Court declined to take up a challenge to tariffs on steel imposed in 2018.  At the time, the president said the tariffs were essential to national security and to maintaining domestic steel production.

Pray for judges and justices to be impartial and even-handed as they hear and decide cases.
