President Calls for Bipartisanship in SOTU

He addressed the priorities his administration has in the coming two years.

President Biden acknowledged the politically divided Congress in his second State of the Union address.

“I don’t want to ruin your reputation, but I look forward to working with you,” President Biden joked to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

The president said he hoped for bipartisanship in addressing issues like the opioid epidemic and expanding mental health care. But his primary focus was on his agenda, including abortion rights, new taxes on billionaires, more protections for labor unions, a resolution of border matters, and law enforcement reforms.

He said his economic plan for the nation is working and that historic progress has been made, celebrating legislation passed over the last two years.

He made little mention of foreign affairs or national security, except for passing references to support for Ukraine and competition with China and the U.S. taking action to protect national sovereignty.

He concluded by saying that the State of the Union is strong because its people themselves are resilient and strong.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Biden and his advisors as they pursue the administration’s agenda.
  • For Speaker McCarthy as he heads the House of Representatives.
  • For Senate Majority Leader Schumer as he oversees Senate proceedings.
